Feeling the stress

After an entire day of browsing patterns, including: a borrow from J Book Nine - Elsebeth Lavold, a F2003 back issue of IK, many hours of Ravelry, and many sweater J found...

I have added ten sweater favorites to my Ravelry list. Stumbled across a fellow Raveler's pic who I have also made a sweater for. Looked through a dozen booklets and pattern books in my own library. I am still at a complete lost on my next project. I threw in the towel last night and went to sleep. I am also contemplating exactly the same thing tonight. It is probably all the stress, a lot of fickleness, a hint of budget limitation, on top of a lot of yarn I really want to knit.

Just when I am about to quit. I remember J said "vest.." when I was concern about running out of yarn for a ss cable sweater. So searching for "vest" I went .. and found Veste Everest (Ravelry link) from IK F2005.

(Project notes on Ravelry) I finished this a few days ago. Lay flat to dry took a while, and the sun is out today! The yarn is very spongy and reminds me of Rowan's Calmer. It is a good working yarn. It will be pair with cute ss top (like the one in the photo) and will make a good spring/transition weather top.

The last few days have been a lot unpleasant (directly related to work and DH). And in trying to un-stress myself, I want to use leftover Father's Grey Peace Fleece from J. After HOURS (sorry J) and countless sweater J showed me on Ravelry. I stumbled into Cafe Bastille Cables Sweater (Ravelry link) from IK 2003. I have the back issue checked out from Bellevue Main Library (yay library!) Still contemplating ...

Some Bear have all the fun

notes re: Bear on flickr

We went to N & J last night - tasty dinner (huge salad, cheeses, russian dumplings (*pelmeni), salmon ... mmm), felt hats and play Bean game.

Hats pre-wash were huge. I knitted mine bigger than pattern suggested to ensure a proper fit and to accommodate a velvet ribbon lining. There was no worries that it will shrink too much. J - "It is more like an art". J's Cascade 200 Heather turned out really purty :) woot, hats!

Spring will be here soon

Spring Beret (Ravelry link) made for my good neighbor Loretta who took care of the fuzzies when I was stuck in hospital with G during the snow storm. She wears a slouch beret when she works in her garden. I hope she likes it. And as always, J finds the good patterns.Thx J!

Economics

me "another ball of yarn is leaving the house"
DH [ponders] "why are you selling all your yarn?"

"I am not selling all my yarn"
"huh, then what are you selling?"

"just a few"
"why did you buy them in the first place? this is where your economics break down, selling them at a loss"

"uh, yea. I know"

Super fluffy furry and soft

DSCN1289

A long time ago (back when I know little - how to work with variegated yarn, angora / mohair, amount of yarn required, etc) .. I picked up a few balls of this Angora 70, "oh, this is so soft and they are mom's colors", from the sale bin at Pacific Fabric (that is no longer) in Issquah. They sat in my stash. After I finished Silk Garden jacket (pic on flickr) and Flannel, I ventured a little further into variegated yarn. I wanted a pattern that requires a small amount of yarn, very simple pattern, on the bias ... After a bit of searching on Ravelry, I happened upon this lovely pattern. I worried how angora will soak and block but it handled both beautifully. It is all wrapped up in the FO/prez box :)

Collecting, stashing, hoarding ...

The other day, I was LOL at Yarn Harlot's saga .. on her washer / dryer / kitchen ...

"Stashing is just a clever financial insurance policy, and it's simply fiscally responsible to engage in it. "

These days, with our current financial situation, this topic is front of mind. I am feeling the satisfaction from FOs made with stash. I repeated her comment to DH, "Knitting is one of the few hobbies that people hoards materials". After a bit of brain storming, we came up with sewing as well. I couldn't think of any other ones. On the way home today, I used 'pet yarn' (vs 'working yarn') in conversation with GD. (I previously made a joke about that with J, ya know, I have Siberian Huskies working dog and she has Boris Pug pet dog and Ginger Boxer working dog). All this got me thinking, is there a line between collecting, stashing, and hoarding. And when, if ever, will I feel really fiscally responsible and enjoy my hobby at the same time :)

Marking time

Towards the end of last year, I set some goals to finish my wip crafty projects, as much as possible, without compromising the usual obligations. I managed to finish the two wip knitting projects - Dumpling (Ravelry link) and Hyrna Herborgar (Ravelry link) but failed to finish the sewing project that I 'started'.

Looking back, this was a pretty good crafty year. I didn't stash too much, I made a good variety, some prezs. I learned new techniques. I discovered I like short sleeve wool sweaters... funny that. Happy New Year!

I finished it with a few hours to spare. I unpinned it on New Years day. It is a very simple and lovely pattern. High reward per unit of 'work' :). I am unsure about the edge. I put it away for now. I am now project-free and looking forward to starting something. I stumbled on to another very purty one on Ravelry. Hrmph.
