I am going to fly away

DSCN1632

.... I called the sleeves "flap flap" in conversation with J when I was working on them. It is a fun pattern and needed no 'help' from me, except to re-enforced the bottom of the armhole. The tee is very cute, drapes nicely in linen/cotton, and fits well!

Brown

Look, another FO in brown!

Mom: "why don't you like brown?". I like brown. As a matter of fact, I have some Silk Garden stash in Taupes & Black that I will knit up, once I find a pattern to match.

The destash yarn is from GD, I bought additional two from webs and they happen to be the same dyelot (!). The button is from J. The yarn very nice and very squishy and it made a very nice and very squishy cardigan for mom. It is generously sized. We say Thank You!

me vs 4 ply cotton

I stashed Rowan 4 ply cotton a few years ago at Knit Happens closing sale. It sat in stash for a long time. I hesitated to tackle tiny. 4 ply. cotton. Somehow I got in my head that crochet is the way for me ...

I found a cute free Japanese pattern and winged it with the chart. Rowan 4 ply is thicker than pattern suggested yarn. I ran into trouble with the shoulder strap / armsyce. It is wearable, just a little snug in the armhole. I also tried crochet buttons, but didn't find small enough buttons / too fiddle at smaller size. I ended up with purchased fabric buttons.

So this is in a 'almost there' project for me. Not exactly right. But not bad. I have more 4 ply cotton in stash to give it another go!

Urban Aran Cardigan

Urban Aran, done up in a cardigan version. Pattern from Patons Street Smart booklet. This project took me forever. My hands were acting up with a severe break out where I couldn't knit. I really wanted a two way zipper about didn't find one in the right size and didn't feel confident I can alter one nicely. So ... I have a cardigan with one way separating zipper.

"One day I'm gonna write a poem in a letter"

David Bowie's Blue Jean kept playing in my head when I was knitting this. So very strange since these jeans is for a boy. preview at Lala

Cute denim for friend's newest addition. Thanks J for the orange cotton yarn. I like the Rowan denim yarn. Maybe I will knit me something in this yarn ... soon.

Instant Hoodie

Let me continue to sing the knit-from-stash song. This yarn has been in stash since Feb 2007 from J. It is squishy soft and gorgeous, not to mention tricky, colorway. It wanted a simple pattern and the Heather Hoodie was it. Buttons are from the same etsy seller that I found the Military Cardi buttons. It is very soft and very warm!

Did I miss spell that correctly?

Sometimes, when I stare at a word for a long time ... or read a word letter by letter .. it starts to look funny.

D-E-T-R-O-I-T

is one of those words. I checked and double checked and triple checked and asked the DH to make sure it was correct as I finish the dup sts. It is a huge sweater, with lots of ease DH requested. Although I am not a fan of the dup stitch, DH likes the puffiness. He even pet the sweater a few times while I was working on it. I am so happy that it is done and he likes it. Yay!

Forecast: flooding and windy

Side note: "yes, you should be able to comment now, on all of the posts."

A crappy picture of a FO is what happens when you live in perpetually grey climate, and you are trying to photograph an almost dry black cotton boucle pullover. You fingers go numb while trying to hold camera steady, no flash, no tripod, while wind blown rain drops pine needles hit you on your face... Anyways, this was a mental break after Military Cardigan. (see the damp spots? the pullover is taking forever to dry. )

In another notes, just to re-enforce that 'no good deed goes un-punish" ... DH was gone for both days of the weekend, doing absolutely-no-housework-no-idea-what, while I finished my weekend chores and started his sweater (ravelry project). Go figure.

How many lint roller sheets does it take...

... to de-lint a black Peace Fleece sweater, that took over a month to knit, in a house with two fuzzies?

well, about two dozen sheets. There were bits of vegetation from the yarn, lots of fur, and small amt of piling (from the spin cycle). It is all done. I really like the knit and the buttons. The buttons took a long time to find. I finally asked a [commercial seller from HK] on etsy to source it for me. Now that it is out of my system ... I will stop procrastinating and go back to what I should be doing.

forgetting...

... is my way of living in the moment, think positively, and not dwell on what I can not control. It is my strategy on coping, along with more crafting (more gardening, more baking, more cooking, more walkies, more reading, more family, etc!) Translation: more everything to prevent the broken record that would otherwise play in my head and drives me insane. Well, enough of that ...

I finished a cute little lacy scarf (Ravelry link)

After a glance of my posts, I realized I forgot to post Chanson Capelet. whoops. (Ravelry link)

(when there was only Chick and Panda)

G: How many of these are you going to make?
me: I dunno.
[pause, G looking at the window]
G: You will need 33 to [fill up the window].

So G picked the next one, the Penguin ... and immediately picked another one (without me asking!) alligator.

I did finish the sweater Dad ordered :)... mmm. a lot of stst. (ravelry link)

More crochet

DSCN1400 DSCN1410
Ravelry link This was fun in a I-just-made-a-giant-doily sort of way. The instruction was a bit cryptic. I am still learning the crochet-way of patterns.

After this bit of success with crochet. I went head first into tawashi-land with J ... The fun yarn is an anti-bacterial bulky acrylic Japanese yarn, mmm acrylic. Ravelry link

The crafty hobby has been good to me. It is keeping me focused, along with catch-up on yardwork/garden ... in between the insanity of unemployment / looking for work. Feeling thankful today :)

Gawain and Booties

I've been keeping my head down to try to mange the continual stress. So what is better than to dive into projects. They occupy the mind and hands, and keeps the spin down. FOs are just side effects.

DSCN1353

First, Gawain (Ravely link). it is a gorgeous pattern and I had to knit it. It totally jumped the line and move to head of the queue. I love the neckline and and the center panel of asymmetrical cables. Lovely sweater.

DSCN1354

Second is a pair of booties for twins - boy and girl. (Ravelry link) Small quick project to spread some love. Thanks GD for giving me navy yarn :)

What to do when hands and wrists are achy from all the knitting? Why try crochet?! I've been wanting to learn more crochet. So I started Queen Anne Lace scarf (Ravelry link). WIth help from J, the Internets, Harmony Guide to Crochet, and a lot of frogging. I think I am on track now.

Owls

DSCN1328

(ravelry link) The owls did not like to be photographed. I stopped after spending too much time on it. So here are some poor pics. Owls was a very simple project. I think the searching and sewing for eyes took longer than the actual knitting. hooot! hooot!

A big mountain ...

DSCN1314

Ravelry project detail Veste Everest from Interweave Knits F2005, knitted with traded leftever from J's (N!) Cobblestone. I've been wanting to use this Peace Fleece for a long time. Over T-day, J handed me the fourth ball and I couldn't wait to knit something with it. After a bit (a lot!) of deliberating ... this is the result. I absolutely love Peace Fleece. I am also warming up to warm grey. I definitely see more Peace Fleece in my future... maybe very very very soon.

Cotton tank

DSCN1308

(Project notes on Ravelry) I finished this a few days ago. Lay flat to dry took a while, and the sun is out today! The yarn is very spongy and reminds me of Rowan's Calmer. It is a good working yarn. It will be pair with cute ss top (like the one in the photo) and will make a good spring/transition weather top.

The last few days have been a lot unpleasant (directly related to work and DH). And in trying to un-stress myself, I want to use leftover Father's Grey Peace Fleece from J. After HOURS (sorry J) and countless sweater J showed me on Ravelry. I stumbled into Cafe Bastille Cables Sweater (Ravelry link) from IK 2003. I have the back issue checked out from Bellevue Main Library (yay library!) Still contemplating ...

Flannel [for my face]

DSCN1275

I started this sweater (details on Ravelry) when I was sitting with DH in intensive care. It was most frightening. He is home now but who knows what the future will bring. I didn't manage to do any lace for the last few weeks. I've been trying to straighten out work, trying to manage budget, and driving to/from hospital & medical appointments in biggest snow storm of the last few decades. Good friends and good neighbors helped me a lot, and my mom and special SiL have been very supportive.

I will return to knitting lace soon. And a huge welcome back to J! I am so happy you (and N) are back. Our first fun crafty trip was to the Japanese bookstore in Uwajmaya Village and I got a couple of books Couture Knit #12 and Knit Concerto. It was quite a splurge :D

From one of my all time favorite movie ... Tempted by Squeeze

I bought a toothbrush, some toothpaste
A flannel for my face
Pyjamas, a hairbrush
New shoes and a case
I said to my reflection
Lets get out of this place...

Just a quick pic to show Mom what her sweater looks like. It still needs a wash and we are waiting on the buttons :)

Washing a wool sweater ...

I knitted a sweater for mom a while back. It turned out a little too big for her. I had this harebrained idea that I should felt it. Well, first task is to find a top loader. The two laundry mat near us do not have a top loader, go figure! So last night I washed it in our front loader, with towels and G's Keen sandals. He volunteered them!

Two wash cycle later. It is a little smaller. It doesn't look felted, it just sort of .. shrunk.I think the measurement is (ahem!) right on.

I wear my hearts on my sleeves

DSCN1093

Phew. Cheesylove is finished. I mod'ed it (of course I did!) and put the hearts on my sleeve. I discovered that 19" sleeves are way too long for me, and this rib sweater grew in the wash. Overall, I am glad I finished it, off to do something else!

Mom and dad's sweaters

CIMG1024.JPG CIMG1028.JPG

Yes! Mom sent me pictures of her and dad in their sweaters. She called yesterday asking for something something recipe... and she finished her BIG WOOL sweater! Yeah. I gave her wash and dry instruction, with the nice smelly SOAK I sent her.

Here is one of in-prog pic in the mirror and she picked up stitches for the collar on her first try. She knitted for us when we were little, but this is her first sweater in a long long time. Yay mom :)

Donegal tweed cardigan

DSCN0989.jpg

It took me about 2 years ... Mom should have her cardigan soon. I boxed it up today. This was quite a journey. I took measurements 2 years ago December. Then I picked out a wonderful brown tweed for her that ended up as a vest for my dad. Well. It is finished in all 2lb 4oz (including box :) )

Finally ... after six billion years and whinning about no knitting time ... frogging and reknitting the neckline. VK Michael Kors Aran (from Winter 2005) is finished. The sleeves are actually the right length .. but the body is just a -><- wide. That is well .. maybe ... a little dryer heat.. may fix. Overall, I am happy with the sweater. It is straight forward and interesting knit.
